Dear Parents/Carers,
As the half term holiday approaches it is hard to believe that Christmas was only 6 weeks ago. The lighter mornings and evenings are a good sign that Spring is on its way so let us hope that the snow has gone for this year!
I would like to thank you for your support for our Haiti appeal. We raised almost £300 which will go towards helping people to rebuild their lives after that most terrible disaster.
Ofsted and Church of England Inspections
The reports for both inspections are published and all parents should have received a copy of both. We are all extremely pleased that once again we have been recognised as a ‘good’ school by Ofsted and an ‘Outstanding’ Church school by the Inspectors for Anglican schools. Once again I would like to thank everyone for supporting the work of the school.
Twinning Project
We have been successful in our application to the local authority to be ‘twinned’ with another school. The LA puts schools from different cultures together to raise awareness and to develop respect for each other and their faiths. Class 2 will be visiting Manorfields I & N school and their Year 2 class will be visiting us. The children will be taking part in fun activities as well as learning about each other. This is a great opportunity for the school and we aim to get as much out of the project for the children as we can.
Once again thank you for your kind generosity.
Lost property
It has been brought to my attention by some parents and staff about the problem of lost items of uniform. It seems the situation is getting worse. We do ask that all items including pumps are named as it helps us to return lost items. Despite this the problem still exists. The aim of the ‘spot checks’ is to name all items in one go for all children then at least we will know who the lost items belong to. Please check your child’s clothes to ensure they belong to them. Thank you.
School meals/Packed lunches
Schools have a responsibility to ensure that children have a healthy lunch at school whether it is provided by the school or a packed lunch brought from home. I work with catering services to produce healthy meals and the governors have provided guidance for parents about the contents of a packed lunch. It is good to see that most children are tucking into sandwiches, yoghurts and fruit. However some children are still bringing more than one sweet thing and packets of crisps. These foods are high in salt, fat and sugar and are not good for your child’s health. Sweets and chocolate are not allowed to be eaten in school so please do not send them in your child’s lunch box.
Dentist and Doctor’s appointments
Our records are showing that children are being taken out of school for dentist and doctor’s appointments. They are also being taken out of school early to accompany parents to appointments. This is not an acceptable reason for a child to be absent from school. It is clear in our school prospectus that appointments need to be made out of school hours to avoid unnecessary absence. Obviously this does not apply to emergency or hospital appointments.
Reminders
Please remember to put your child’s name down for nursery and school as early as possible. If you need any advice on admissions please pop into the office and speak to Mrs Earnshaw.
